About
THE SHOP AND THE STAFF
Lou
and Sue Moodie are the owners/directors of Music Warehouse Limited.
The seeds were sown back in the 80's; take one classically trained
pianist and one self-taught electric guitarist, put them together and
what do you get? Well who knows the answer to that but a future in music
together was pretty much on the cards.
In June 1984 Magpie's Nest Music Shop opened in Butt Road selling mainly
S/H guitars, amps, synths. etc. Sue ran it on her own during the week
while Lou kept his job as a buyer for the first year joining her full
time in 1985. The business grew steadily and in 1986 they opened their
sister shop "Music Warehouse" in Alexandra Road, taking on
Keith Williams bass player with popular local band
"Luigi" (remember us?!) as shop manager.
Growing from strength to strength, we finally moved to our present
location in St. John's Street in 1989;Lou and Sue tied the knot in the
same year.
The shop expanded again a few years later with the acquisition of 36 St.
John's Street and has remained the same since. We would love to expand
further, but our customers tell us that they like the character and
uniqueness of the shop. It gets a bit crazy at times but there's nothing
like rubbing shoulders with some celebs- Jack Bruce and Steve Harley to
mention just two local lads. We're always looking at ways to make
improvements in the shop for our customers so watch out for future
plans!
Lou and Sue work mainly from home now, leaving the Shop now managed.
April, their daughter works every Saturday, and is hoping to pursue a
career in music herself; Their son Benji, a keen guitarist, helps out
sometimes but at 16 he has more important things to do on a Saturday!
The motto from the beginning was, ‘the best range of guitars and
amplification, sold at the very best price with the very best advice and
after sales service’. The shop, 24 years on, still provides the same
recipe which attributes to its success now.
Welcome to our Shop and let's introduce you to the team: |

Jerry
Jay Elvin.
Jerry joined the shop in August this year. He is a highly skilled and
versatile guitarist and teaches all styles of guitar and bass playing in
his spare time (see our tuition page). Jerry was born and bred in
Norwich but somehow seems to have avoided picking up the local accent. Jerry
has a sound knowledge of all the gear sold at Music Warehouse.

Sam
D'eath
Sam has just joined Music Warehouse after qualifying at the Colchester
Institute with a National Diploma In Music Technology. He started a
local Metalcore/tech band called ‘Ghosts Of Chernobyl’ as a result
of his passion for music and playing guitar.
